Trying to get new, stirring thoughts, inspirational dishes that I have never tried before, to delight my family with. Searching for a long time yet couldn't discover any interesting things. Just before I thought to give up on it, I stumbled on this scrumptious and easy dessert by chance. It seemed so delightful on its photo, it required quick actions.
It absolutely was simple enough to imagine just how it's created, how it tastes and just how much my hubby will love it. Actually, it is very easy to impress the man in terms of cakes. Yes, I am a blessed one. Or perhaps he is.Anyway, I went to the blog: Ambitiouskitchen and simply followed the simple instuctions that were coupled with great graphics of the task. When we were younger, my sister and I would make special trips to our local bagel shop every weekend just to pick up a couple of everything bagels. The bagels themselves were good but the ‘everything' topping was what we craved the most.
The flavorful combination of seeds, garlic and onion with a sprinkle of salt was our absolute favorite. So good I have tried to include the topping mix into a few different recipes - the latest being this incredibly easy cheese straw recipe I found in the latest issue of All You Magazine.
The tasty topping puts a savory spin upon this classic southern favorite. So light, crisp, and cheesy.
While this recipe requires just a few ingredients one of the biggest tips for successful dough is using freshly grated cheese. Considering that the recipe it self is blended in the food processor - I simply buy a block of cheddar and grate it using the food processor's shredding blade. The fresh grated cheese blends much better then a pre-shredded cheese - as well as the processor does all of the meet your needs. Once the cheese is grated, let it sit and come to room temperature before continuing.
When the dough is processed it's soft and pliable and certainly will be cut, rolled or pipped. We enjoy the traditional straws therefore i simply used a disposable decorating bag
to pipe the straws.
This cheese straw recipe stores well for up to five days in an airtight container, at room temperature. If they are being prepared in advance, the stored cheese straws could be popped back into a 350° oven to warm & crisp them right before serving.

2 Cups of Freshly Grated Extra-Sharp Cheddar (approximately 8 oz . ), at room temperature
8 Tablespoons (1 Stick) of Unsalted Butter, cut into large pieces, softened
1½ Cups of most Purpose Flour
¼ Teaspoon of Salt
¼ Teaspoon of Cayenne Pepper
Assorted Toppings: Sesame Seeds, Poppy Seeds, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Sea Salt
Preheat oven to 400°.
Process the cheese and butter in a food processor until smooth and creamy; stopping the device and scraping down the sides as needed.
Add flour, salt, and cayenne pepper and pulse until the mixture forms a soft, pliable dough. (do not over mix or the dough can be too tough)
Transfer the dough to a large pastry bag fitted with a star tip and pipe the straws onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Sprinkle with desired seasonings.
Bake 10-12 minutes, until straws are lightly browned around the edges.
Let cool on the baking sheets.
A ziploc bag can be used instead of the pastry bag. Simply place the dough in a large ziploc bag, snip off a corner and pipe the straws on the baking sheet.
For a tasty variety try mixing some of the following toppings:
finely grated cheddar cheese
finely grated parmesan cheese
I really like quick and easy recipes especially when a lot of the ingredients needed
are right in our pantry.
